Cargo Ship Dali Arrives in China for Repairs in Baltimore Bridge Accident
2024-11-15 1Seven months ago, a container ship named Dali was involved in a serious accident in the Port of Baltimore, which caused part of the Francis Scott Key Bridge to collapse. Today, the freighter owned by Grace Ocean and managed by Synergy Marine has arrived at a ship repair yard in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China for extensive repairs.
The incident
On March 26, 2024, the Darley suddenly lost power and propulsion while leaving Baltimore Harbor and struck a pier on the south side of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing a portion of the bridge's central truss span to collapse. The accident left six construction workers dead, one construction worker seriously injured, and a crew member on board was also injured.
Rescue and follow-up
Rescuers didn't manage to float the Darley until May 20 and tow it to Virginia to offload the remaining Container. The vessel then left U.S. waters in late September for repairs at Huadong Shipyard in Fujian Province, China.
